PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Week 1 - Edison High

The Cougars got off to a good start against a fast Edison team. The Cougars scored on the opening drive with short run by quarterback CJ Broussard. The Cougars never looked back, and lead the whole game. The second score happened on the Cougar's second possession, with a 20 yard plus pass from Broussard to James Gilmore. The Cougars lead 14 to 6 at half. In the third quarter the Cougars scored with a 30 keeper by Broussard. The Cougars ended the scoring in the fourth quarter when Adrain Salas picked up a blocked punt and took it 50 yards or so for a touchdown. Cougars held on to win 27 to 24.

Week 2 - Atasadero High

The Cougars started off again by scoring on the opening drive for the second week in a row, and dominated the Greyhounds offensively and defensively the whole came. The Cougars first the first touchdown and a 15 yard pass in the middle of the field to a closely covered Garrett Olson. On the next possession McKay France cumulated a long drive with a 1 yard keeper. The Greyhounds were held scoreless in the first half. The second started just like the first half with a long drive and a 5 yard run for the Wildcat formation by France. On Cougars next offensive series they drove to the Greyhounds 1 yard, but turn the ball over on downs. On the Greyhounds first play from scrimmage the Cougars tackled the running back for a 1 yard loss and a safety. Jake Poindexter sealed the win with a 27 yard field goal.


Week 3- Bullard

The Freshman Cougars got off to another fast start against the Bullard Knights, scoring on their first two possessions.
After a long return on the opening kick off the Cougars scored quickly when Garrett Olson scored on a 20 yard touchdown run. Then after a fumble recovery by Jordan Harper the cougars drove down the field 40 yards for a score highlighted by a 25 yard pass from McKay France to James Gilmore. A few plays later Adrian Salas ran it from the 2 yard line for a score.
The defense came up big again just before the half when Salas intercepted a Knight pass and returned it 50 yards for the touchdown. The halftime score Clovis 20- Bullard 0.
The Cougars C.J. Broussard drove the team down the field late in the 3rd quarter with his passing and finished the drive with a 17 yard T.D. pass to Nick Ortiz.
With the exception of one long pass play the Cougars defense dominated the Knights all game long and kept them out of Cougar territory with the exception of one drive when the Knights connected on a 40 yard passfor a T.D.
Final score Clovis 27- Bullard 6
Week 4 - Stockdale

      The Cougars faced their toughest opponent yet in a very strong and physical Stockdale team.

      Clovis scored 10 points before Stockdale ever got the ball on offense.

     Stockdale kicked the ball off to open the game were Garrett Olson returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.

    Then on the ensuing kick off the cougars recovered the ball on a pooch kick by Jake Poindexter. The drive stalled on the Stockdale 2 yard line where Jake Poindexter kicked a field goal.

      On Stockdale’s first possession they scored quickly when #30 broke free and scored on a 50 yard TD run. But the Cougars were not done yet. After a Garrett Olson Interception return the cougars again drove down to the 3 yard line where Jake Poindexter continued his great kicking with another field goal.  Then just before the half the Cougars had a great drive led by the running of Adrian Salas And the running and passing of C.J. Broussard. Broussard finished the drive with a 1 yard run to make the halftime score Clovis 20- Stockdale 7.

      The second half started with a lot of costly penalties for the Cougars allowing the Mustangs to get back in the game. After a lot of hard running # 30 again busted thru the line and raced 40 yards to close the gap to 20-14. But the cougar’s offense came thru when it needed to, with a long time consuming drive led by Q.B. Broussard the Cougars put the game away when he connected on a 25 yard pass play to Garrett Olson.

After that the defense completely shut down the Mustang running game and sent them home with their first loss.

                     Final Score Clovis 27- Stockdale 14.

Week 5 - Sanger

For the fifth time this year the freshman Cougars scored on their first possession.
After the opening kickoff Clovis slowley moved the ball down the field and finished the drive when Mckay France dove in from the 3 yard line for a score.Then in the second quarter the defense came up with a big turn over when Jason Black knocked the ball loose and Sam Zigerrelli recovered it deep in Sanger territory.
A few plays later C.J. Broussard scored from the 5 yard line.
The first half ended with a 14-0 score and the defense did not allow a Sanger first down in the half.
The Cougars scored their final touchdown midway thru the second half when Broussard ran a keeper for a big gain and Nate Mora finished it with a 6 yard T.D. run for his first score of the year.
Clovis upped their record to 5-0 with a final score of 21-0.
Week 7 - Clovis East

The freshman Cougars brought their record to 6-0 with a hard fought conference victory over Clovis East. The game began with a Cougar fumble recovery on the Timberwolves opening drive.  Behind some great blocking by the offensive line and some hard running by the Cougars backs, Clovis ended a 45 yard drive with a 5 yard score by Garrett Olson. In the second quarter Clovis again scored on a long drive with McKay France taking it in from 1 yard out.


Then just before the half Jake Poindexter kicked what has to be freshman record 40 yard field goal to make the half time score 17-7.
Clovis put the game away late in the third quarter when C.j Broussard threw a 12 yard strike to a slanting Nate Mora. Final Score Clovis 24 Clovis East 14.

Week 8 - Madera

The Cougars scored on their first possession on some strong running and passing plays, with C.J. Broussard
scoring from 4 yards out to take a 7-0 lead.
The team scored on almost every possession in the first half with scores by McKay France, Broussard and a 37 yard run by Nate Mora to make it 28 to 0 at the half.
The team did not play with the same intensity in the second half as Madera scored a safety and then returned the kickoff for a score. The game ended as Madera scored their last points as time ran out.
The freshman team took their record to 7-0 with a 28 - 15 victory.
Week 9 - Buchanan

The Cougars got off to a fast start against a 6-1 Buchanan team and never looked back. After a long kickoff return the team the team quickly scored on a C.J. Broussard 9 yard run. After a Bear fumble recovery the defense made a huge goal line stand after the Bears had the ball 1st & goal at the 6 inch line. But the Bears quickly came back and scored on a 22 yard pass play to tie the score at 6-6.

Clovis then turned the game around when they scored twice with less than 3 minutes left before the half. After a 35 yard pass to McKay France they scored on a 37 yard screen pass by Adrian Salas. Then after a 65 yard punt return by Garrett Olson to the ten, Broussard found Jordan Gonzales in the end zone to make it 21-6 at the half.

The second half started with a bang when the Cougars recovered their own onside kick and quickly scored on a 6 yard run by Nate Mora. They put the game away in the 3rd quarter when Salas ran 67 yards to the 3yard line where Broussard took in for the score.

The freshman team finished the scoring on a 6 yard Broussard keeper, and took their record 8-0 with a 41-12 whipping of the Bears.

Week 10 - Central

In a game that featured two undefeated teams that was to determine the league champion, it was all Central.


The Cougars were stopped on their first possession for the first time all year and gave the ball up to the Grizzlies who scored quickly on a long run on their second play from scrimmage.


Central grabbed a big lead early but the cougars fought back to close the lead to 24-14 with 1:00 left in the half but an onside kick backfired and central returned to the 10 yard line and scored with no time left to give them a lead the freshman could not overcome. The cougar scores came from Adrian Salas. 2 t.d. & Hugh Awtrey who caught a long pass from C.J. Broussard. The cougars lost for the first time and brought their record to 8-1.

Week 11 - Clovis West

The Cougars bounced back after a tough loss with a resounding victory over the Eagles of Clovis West.


The Cougars explosive offense scored quickly and often in the first half with touchdowns from Garrett Olson, Mckay France, C.J. Broussard and a long interception return with no time on the clock by James Gilmore to give the Cougars a 35-6
halftime lead.

Clovis ended their 2009 season at 9-1 with a 42-14 victory.
